Sunday School – welcoming children ages 3 to 12
Our Sunday School program welcomes children from ages 3 to 12, and aims to teach them about God’s word and how it relates to their life.
Volunteer teachers are drawn from Zion’s congregation, and classes are based on a curriculum called “Spark,” published in Canada by Augsburg Fortress Press.
Sunday School takes place during the 10 a.m. service throughout the school year. There is no Sunday School during Zion’s summer months, from mid-June to mid-September.

Our Sunday School mixed-media craft for 2016 was based on Max Lucado’s beloved Christmas Book, “The Crippled Lamb.” It poignantly tells the story of how Joshua, a little crippled lamb, learns THE message for all God’s children by not only witnessing but also playing an important role during the birth of baby Jesus. The recurring refrain throughout the story is this: “God has a special place for those who feel left out.”
Sing to the Lord a new song!
Under the leadership and guidance of Susan Laustsen, the Sunday School children lovingly created this masterpiece which was unveiled to the congregation during the Church Service on Sunday, May 3, 2015. The phrase “Sing to the Lord a new song!” is found in the hymn “Earth and All Stars.”
Confirmation Classes – for students in Grades 7 & 8
When young people reach the age of 13 or 14, it is Lutheran tradition to offer them the opportunity to say yes to their baptism, and to learn more about continuing their journey with God.
Zion’s weekly confirmation classes (September – April) offer young people the chance to explore their faith more deeply, and provide them with the tools they need to make this important decision.
